Guardiola to extend Manchester City stay?

According to Football Insider, Manchester City and Pep Guardiola have reached an agreement in principle for the Catalan coach to remain in charge of the team at the Etihad for a year past the expiration date on his current contract, which means he should continue in his role throughout the 2025/26 season.

Guardiola has been mulling over the decision on whether to leave the reigning Premier League champions at the end of this season or to sign a new deal for a while now. Reports mostly linked his potential choice with the outcome of the ongoing proceedings against City for alleged financial offences, which could result in the club’s relegation from the English top flight if the most serious among the charges are proven. The initial verdict is expected early in 2025.

As for Guardiola himself, he has always maintained that the two uncertainties were unrelated, and it seems he’s been telling the truth in that matter.
