Lorient star Raphael Guerreiro has moved to reveal that he rejected an opportunity to join Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
It was no secret that the Saints were keen on the Portugal international and they appeared to have reached an agreement with the player’s employers.
However, Guerreiro has now suggested that he rejected a move to Parc des Princes in order to ensure he remains in Portugal’s squad ahead of the Euro 2016.
“Paris, it was serious. It would have been possible if I was ok with it,” the full-back explained to L’Equipe.
“If Lucas Digne left from there, it was because of the European Championship at the end of season. That’s why it was better for me to stay at Lorient, to play, rather than not to play in Paris.”
Raphael Guerreiro has seen his stock rise a great deal over the last couple of years, and nobody was surprised to see Europe’s top sides join the race for his signature.
The 21-year-old, who can operate at left back or left wing, already has 75 Ligue 1 appearances to his name, while scoring 8 goals in the process.
Guerreiro has started one Euro 2016 qualifier for Portugal, whilst scoring on his debut to help the Selecao beat Argentina in an international friendly.
