Guerrero facing six-week ban

Hamburg striker Paolo Guerrero is likely to be banned for six games following his horror challenge on Stuttgart goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.

The Peru international was given his marching orders for the foul in the 54th minute, with Bruno Labbadia’s men running out 4-0 winners.

Ulreich was shepherding the ball out of play near the corner flag when Guerrero scythed down the keeper, running his boot along his calf.

After the game the shot-stopper told reporters: “I wanted to secure the ball. I do not know why he did it, maybe he was just frustrated.”

Guerrero is no stranger to controversy after being given a five-match ban in 2010 for throwing a water bottle off the head of a supporter when walking off the pitch after a 0-0 draw with Hannover.
