German side Hamburger SV had no difficulties defending last week’s comfortable result against Guingamp, beating the French 3-1 in the second leg.
After the 1-5 win in France last week, the task at HSH Nordbank Arena wasn’t expected to be a tough one for HSV.
And indeed it wasn’t. Guingamp failed to break through the German defense and instead allowed an opening goal from Robert Tesche in the 42nd minute.
Swedish forward Marcus Berg made it 2-0 shortly after the break and Tesche added his second of the night in minute 51.
Lionel Mathis got one back for the French visitors in the dying minutes, but it was no more than a consolation goal as Guingamp’s European adventure has come to an early end.
