According to the Daily Mirror, Fenerbahce have signed Spain Euro 2008 winning striker Daniel Guiza from Real Mallorca. The fee remains undisclosed but rumors suggest it could be for an estimated €17 million.
Guiza, who signed a four-year deal, is former Spain head coach Luis Aragones’s first major signing since taking charge at the Istanbul club last week after he led his country to their first major title in 44 years.
Güiza began showing his ability at Getafe CF. scoring 20 goals in just over 60 games, but it was when he joined Mallorca in July 2007 that he blossomed as a striker. Güiza finished the season as the league’s top scorer, netting 27 times in 37 outings with no penalty kicks. This earned him a place on the Spainish National team for the summer’s European Championships. And, despite being mostly used as a substitute for David Villa or Fernando Torres, Guiza managed to chalk two goals one of which was the match winner against Greece.
After such a fantastic year, many big clubs were buzzing about the 27 year old and Arsenal and Liverpool were rumored to be leading the chase for his services. However, Guiza chose to link up with former coach, Aragones, in Istanbul.
