Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has revealed he is open to a move to the English Premier League.
The Germany international, 24, was previously close to joining Real Madrid before Dortmund rejected the offer, but the 24-year-old admits a move to England or Spain could be on the cards.
Gundogan, who is contracted to Signal Iduna Park until the summer of 2016, may look for pastures new in the summer, with Dortmund likely to miss out on UEFA Champions League qualification after a nightmare start to the 2014/15 campaign.
“Real Madrid made an offer for me but my club refused it,” Gundogan said.
“At the time I had two more seasons on my contract. But also, my injury wrecked everything. I couldn’t play for 14 months.
“Now I want to look forward and make up for lost time with sporting success.
“Playing outside Germany is one of my big goals. If one day I leave here, I’d like to play in Spain or for one of the big teams in England.”
If the season ended today, Jürgen Klopp’s side would need to win a play-off in order to stay in Germany’s top-flight.
To put their struggles in context, Dortmund (3-2-7) are 19 points behind table toppers Bayern Munich (9-3-0) after just 12 rounds of league fixtures.
Brozovic nears Besiktas move
According to reports in Turkey, Besiktas are on the verge of agreeing a deal for the transfer of highly-rated Croatia international midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
Brozovic, 22, has impressed for both club–Dinamo Zagreb– and country this season.
The 22-year-old Croatian, who has been scouted by Arsenal since the start of the season, and Besiktas have reportedly agreed personal terms.
The deal now hinges on Besiktas meeting Dinamo’s £5 million price-tag for Brozovic.
Ancelotti in contract talks with Real Madrid
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has revealed he has entered contract talks with the club over a new deal.
Ancelotti, who led Real to La Decima last term, is enjoying his role as the “trainer of champions” at the Bernabéu, and would be delighted to extend his stay in the Spanish capital.
“I hope [to be in the history of Madrid] not only for La Decima,” Ancelotti said. “I have a contract until 2016 and we are talking about my renewal.
“Real is a very well-structured club. The members name their president every four years, and they also become a tool of control. There is no tycoon, but a formidable management of the brand. Real Madrid wants the best, and as a consequence, the better they play.
“I like being called the ‘trainer of champions,’ but the true champions do not need trainers. They are the most serious and more professional; look at Cristiano Ronaldo.”
Since losing the derby match against Atletico Madrid on 13 September, Real have won 14 consecutive matches in all competitions. #Rolling.
