Veteran French international defender William Gallas faces a long lay-off after suffering a medial ligament injury during Arsenal’s 1-1 away draw with Villarreal, according to Gunners manager Arsene Wenger.
Gallas had to come off during the first-half and is definitely out of next week’s second leg match in London as is Arsenal’s Spanish goalkeeper Manuel Almunia, who also came off in the first-half with a twisted ankle.
“Gallas has a medial ligament injury,” Wenger told Canal Plus. “The initial diagnosis doesn’t appear to be very positive, but it will be clearer on Wednesday. As for Almunia it is the second time he has twisted his right ankle, and generally that means a three week lay-off.”
