The Sun is today reporting that Arsenal are weighing up the option of signing West Ham United midfielder Mohamed Diame in this January transfer window.
The central midfielder only arrived at West Ham from Wigan Athletic in the summer, but it is thought that he has a release clause of around £3.5 million in his contract and the Gunners could take advantage of that.
The Hammers are trying to get a new deal done with Diame and increase the release clause to £7 million, but they don’t seem to be close to agreeing new terms.
Arsene Wenger is after a bit more bite and strength in the middle of the park and the former Wigan man certainly offers that.
He has been superb in the English Premier League for West Ham so far, but the opportunity to join Arsenal might be too good to turn down.
Mikel Arteta is out for two weeks with a calf strain and Abou Diaby is constantly fighting a battle to be fit, so a new box-to-box midfielder might be just what Wenger needs as his side look to make a push for the Champions League this season.
Could he be on the way to Arsenal?
We shall see.
