Erling Haaland has his sights set on winning the FA Cup and securing Champions League qualification, as Manchester City look to salvage something from their disappointing season.

City won the Premier League title in both of Haaland’s first two years at the Etihad Stadium, but they are well out of the race this term.

Pep Guardiola’s side are fifth and 22 points adrift of leaders Liverpool, while they are already out of the Champions League after losing to defending champions Real Madrid in the knockout phase playoffs.

Nevertheless, Haaland has continued to score freely with 29 goals in all competitions, and City’s number nine remains optimistic about the remainder of their campaign.

“That’s how it is sometimes,” he told reporters ahead of Norway’s World Cup qualifier against Moldova. “It’s been different when you’ve won the Premier League both years and not been in the title race. But you can’t win every year.

“Now, it’s about securing a Champions League place, and doing something you can do something about: Win the FA Cup.”

Haaland, who signed a new nine-and-a-half-year deal in January, also says he is not afraid by the potential charges City could face for financial breaches.

The Citizens are expected to soon hear the verdict on their 115 Premier League charges, which could lead to a significant fine or points deduction, but the striker has every faith in the club.

“I don’t do that, obviously, when I sign a nine-and-a-half-year contract,” he added. “I’ve said 300 times why I signed the contract. I talked to the club, got a good feeling and agreed to it in the end. That’s why.”
