According to Marca, Erling Haaland is expected to sign a new contract with Manchester City soon. His current deal still has three years left to run, but the Premier League champions are determined to reward the striker’s unbelievable impact since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.
But while it may seem Haaland’s new contract would strengthen City’s hold over his services, it will apparently include a release clause, devised by his father Alf-Inge and agent Rafaela Pimenta to make the Norway international a “master of his own destiny”, which is not very common in the Premier League.
Marca’s focus in this story is unsurprisingly set on that particular detail, and at the Spanish outlet they believe it will be set within the reach of Real Madrid, should Los Blancos decide to make their move for Haaland. However, that doesn’t seem to be a part of their plans for the time being, after they added Kylian Mbappe to their already formidable attacking options.
What’s even more interesting is the Daily Mail reporting that the 24-year-old is practically guaranteed to earn around £850,000 per week, bonuses included, under the terms of his new contract at the Etihad, amid plenty of uncertainty around the fate of Manchester City as the Premier League conducts its proceedings against the reigning champions for alleged violations of financial rules.
The hearing is set to take place within the month, while an initial verdict is expected early in 2025.
