Former Dutch footballing great Ari Haan resigned on Wednesday as Albanian coach because of poor results in their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign, the president of the football federation said in a statement.

“Mr. Haan submitted his resignation following the poor results of the Albanian football team in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers,” Armando Duka said.

Haan, who was a member of the great Ajax team of the 1970’s and the Dutch side that reached the 1978 World Cup final where they lost to hosts Argentina, has coached the Albanian team since January 2008 after the departure of his predecessor Croat Otto Baric.

Albania have won just one and lost three out of their seven matches in European zone Group One qualifying.
