“Luca Toni joins Borussia Dortmund, it’s official.” This is the news many German fans woke up to this Friday, only to find out that it had all been the work of a rather inventive hacker.
The headline appear on the official website of Borussia Dortmund. To add to the hoax, the hacker included a picture of Toni wearing a Borussia jersey.
By the time Dortmund webmasters found out about the hacking, several media had already reported on the false story.
Borussia’s general manager Michael Zorc could appreciate the joke: “To afford Luca Toni we would have to plunder the Bank of England.”
On Thursday, Bayern Munich manager Louis van Gaal demoted the Italian forward to the reserves, increasing the chance of a transfer away from Bavaria.
