Shocking many and already climbing to the top of the National League, a high-flying Halifax will travel to Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, despite many tipping Wrexham as a shoo-in for the play-offs again this season, Bryan Hughes’ men were largely outplayed at Dover over the weekend and their 2-1 defeat will start to worry many around the Racecourse Ground. With a hard-fought 2-1 win over Barrow on the opening weekend their only victory in their first three outings, the Reds have also shown some worrying defensive issues, something that haunted them at the back end of last season. Shipping a pair of goals in back-to-back encounters, Wrexham have also managed to record just a single National League clean sheet since the 16th of March.

As for the visitors, having to settle for a 16th place finish last season and thought to face a similar outcome this time around, few in the National League would have expected Halifax’s impressive revival. Coming off the back of another impressive display in their 1-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge last weekend, Pete Wild’s men have won each of their opening three outings and the mood in their camp couldn’t be any higher. Building off back-to-back wins at the end of last season, Halifax enjoyed an unbeaten run over the summer and have not tasted defeat in any format since the 19th of April, a run that also saw them pick up a 4-1 win away at Ebbsfleet on the opening weekend.
