Competition: National League

Market: Halifax Town win

Odds: 5/2 @ Bet 365

Handed the chance to potentially steal top spot in England’s fifth-tier, a high-flying Halifax will travel to a struggling Chesterfield on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, putting in yet another lacklustre display in their 1-1 draw at home against Dagenham & Redbridge last weekend, the mood in Chesterfield’s camp remains at low. One of just two sides yet to pick up a single victory in any of their opening eight National League appearances, they have also failed to pick up a single victory across any format since their opening pre-season outing. A huge part of Chesterfield’s recent issues has come down to their continued issues at the Protact Stadium. Including back-to-back home defeats against Dover and Woking, Tuesday could prove to be yet another tough test for the hosts.

As for the visitors, while Chesterfield might be enduring another worrying start to the new campaign, Halifax have continued to shine. Picking up a 2-1 win over Solihull Moors on Saturday, they currently find themselves enjoying a three-match winning run and have tasted defeat just once in any of their opening eight appearances. Handed the chance to potentially leapfrog Woking to top spot, a huge part of Halifax’s recent revival has come thanks to their form in the final third. With no side in the National League bagging more goals than Tuesday’s guests, we’re backing Halifax to extend their winning run in midweek.
