Franco-Bosnian veteran handler Vahid Halilhodzic is to quit as Ivory Coast coach even though the country is well set to qualify for next year’s World Cup finals, the Ivorian Football federation (FIF) said Wednesday.

Halilhodzic is understood to have told the FIF he hopes to take up a post in England where he is reportedly on the radar of English Premiership side Portsmouth.

Halilhodzic took over his current post in May last year with a mission to guide the “Elephants” through to the World Cup finals in South Africa and land the African Nations Cup.

Ivory Coast currently top qualifying Group E with three wins from three matches to date after last weekend’s key win in Burkina Faso.
