Bundesliga outfit Hamburg have produced a major coup by securing the signature of Barcelona midfielder Alen Halilovic, TV3 can reveal.
The talented footballer is expected to pen a long-term deal with the Imtech Arena outfit during the day after the two clubs agreed on a €5 million fee.
Under the terms of the agreement, Barcelona have the option to buy the midfielder back for €10 million and €12.5 million respectively after the first and second season.
Halilovic was eager to leave the Catalans in search of regular playing time, but many believed he would remain in Spain following a highly successful loan stint with Sporting Gijon.
The 20-year-old was in excellent form during his first ever La Liga campaign, scoring 3 goals and setting up another 5 in 36 league outings.
Halilovic becomes Hamburg’s second high-profile signing of the summer, following in the footsteps of USA starlet Bobby Wood.
