Hamburg starlet Hakan Calhanoglu is hoping to join Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season, according to the player’s official representative.
The 20-year-old has become one of the hottest commodities in German Bundesliga following some impressive displays this term, but he snubbed interested from Europe’s top clubs to sign a new HSV deal back in February.
Nevertheless, with Hamburg involved in the relegation play-offs, it appears the attacker has changed his mind and he now wants out of Imtech Arena in the summer.
Calhanoglu’s official representative has confirmed the reports, while stating that his client prefers a move to Bayer Leverkusen.
“From the perspective of the player, the environment at Leverkusen is favoured,” agent Bektas Demirtas told Bild. “It would be the next step for Hakan to play internationally.
“They are a club who are playing in Europe, who would like to buy him and who are also prepared to pay the right price for him.
“A move to a foreign club is not in question. Bayern also plays no role, we have never favoured a move to Munich. It is important that the boy is playing. We have to think in the medium to long term.”
Hakan Calhanoglu has been in scintillating form this season, having scored 11 goals in 32 Bundesliga matches.
Hamburg face Greuther Furth in the relegation play-off, with the Red Shorts priced at 3/4 to win the first leg at Imtech Arena.
