Hamburg youngster Jann-Fiete Arp has moved to reveal reasons why he rejected a switch to Chelsea.
While also impressing playing for the club’s youth sides, the 17-year-old was in excellent form at the Under-17 European Championship, bagging 7 goals in 5 matches at the tournament finals.
A series of excellent performances saw him catch the eye of clubs like Chelsea, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund, but the youngster ultimately decided to extend his stay at Hamburg, signing a deal until June 2019.
Arp claims he had an opportunity to join Chelsea this summer, but he, nonetheless, decided to remain at Imtech Arena.
“It just doesn’t make any sense to join Chelsea as a 17-year-old,” Arp said. “You have achieved near to nothing, basically have no experience in professional football.
“The risk is too high. It would have been nonsense to move abroad and neglect everything else.”
Arp is expected to represent Germany at the Under-17 World Cup in India next October, while it is only a matter of time before he is handed his senior debut at Hamburg.
