FIFA presidential candidate Mohamed Bin Hammam intends to make the World Cup voting process more transparent if he is elected.
Football’s global governing body came under criticism in 2010 after the secret ballot held to determine which countries will host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.Asian Football Confederation chief Bin Hammam, 61, has pledged to reform the voting process, if he is successful in unseating the incumbent Sepp Blatter.”We need to explain decision making – people are making decisions that affect millions,” Bin Hammam told the BBC.Allegations of corruption were made during the voting process. Two executive committee members were suspended following an internal investigation, with four other officials also sanctioned.”We belong to the people – acting on behalf of them,” Bin Hammam said.”It’s reasonable and logical to vote openly – it happens in other organisations, why shouldn’t it happen in Fifa?”Blatter, 75, has held the post of FIFA President for 13 years and has not been challenged since 2002.
