Bundesliga side Hannover 96 have admitted their interest in Netherlands international Douglas Franco Teixeira.
The 96ers see the Brazilian-born defender as a perfect replacement for Sergio da Silva Pinto, who is set to join La Liga side Levante.
Hannover chief Martin Kind has added fuel to speculations linking the Bundesliga club with a move for the 25-year-old.
“We want Douglas, that would be a very good signing,” Kind confessed to Bild on Saturday.
Douglas has been a free agent since his deal at Twente expired some week ago and he is likely to be interested in a switch to German Bundesliga.
Newcastle have been keeping close tabs on the centre-back for a while now, and they could submit an official offer in the coming days.
Douglas, who has scored 15 goals in 162 Eredivisie appearances for the Tukkers, was recently awarded Netherlands passport and was called for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Romania and Andorra, but is yet to be handed his Oranje debut.
