Martin Kind, the president of Hanover 96, has suggested that suicide victim Robert Enke might still be alive if those closest to the goalkeeper had acted differently.
Enke, who was suffering from depression, took his own life last November with the tragedy sparking an outpouring of grief in Germany with 30,000 people attending his memorial service in Hanover.
Kind, discussing the 32-year-old’s death on German television on Sunday night, said: “I can understand that his entourage who were aware of his illness did everything to protect him but I believe that if they’d acted differently different solutions could have been found.
“Perhaps Robert Enke might even still be alive.”
