Schalke manager Ralf Rangnick wants new signing Teemu Pukki to work hard in order to win his place in the side.
The 21-year-old striker from Finland joined the Bundesliga outfit on transfer deadline day, with an impressive 11 goals in 18 league appearances for HJK Helsinki this season, in addition to three strikes in their Europa League qualifying campaign.
But with the likes of the free-scoring Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Raul and Jefferson Farfan offering competition up front, winning a place in the side will not be easy for Pukki and will only come if he works hard.
“Whether he will play depends on how quickly he can integrate within the team and how well he trains,” Rangnick said.
“What we saw in the games against HJK Helsinki and the games before that was what made us want to sign Teemu Pukki. He will play up front.”
Pukki is delighted to have joined Schalke, just weeks after playing against them for his side, but is aware of what he must to do to win his spot.
“It’s a huge chance. I have to work for it and I hope I will play,” Pukki said.
“Two weeks ago I played against Schalke and now I’m here as a Schalke player, so it’s good to be here.”
“I want to make a long career here in Germany. Hopefully I will play as much as I can and I want to (get) a lot of goals here for Schalke.”
