Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth ended an unhappy spell with the Washington Redskins by joining the New England Patriots on Thursday.

Haynesworth signed for the Redskins in a US$100 million, seven-year deal in February 2009, but failed to adapt to the tactics of defensive coordinator Greg Blache.

His disruptive behaviour, including public criticism of coach Mike Shanahan, led the Redskins to suspend him for the remainder of the 2010-11 season from December 7 onwards.

He was traded to the Patriots for a fifth-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft.

Also on Thursday, running back Reggie Bush rejoined the Miami Dolphins in a two-year, US$10 million deal from the New Orleans Saints.

Bush is set to be replaced at the Saints by Heisman trophy winner Mark Ingram, who was drafted at number 28 overall from the University of Alabama.

Quarterback Kevin Kolb moved from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Arizona Cardinals in a trade for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a 2012 second-round draft pick.

Kolb has agreed a five-year US$63 million contract with the Cardinals.

In other trade news, receiver Sidney Rice is set to join quarterback Tarvaris Jackson in a switch from the Minnesota Vikings to the Seattle Seahawks.

Rice, who had major hip surgery in August 2010, will sign a five-year contract worth US$41 million, to be finalised on Friday.

Quarterback Donovan McNabb arrives at the Vikings from the Redskins, in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in 2012 and a conditional sixth-round pick in 2013.

Defensive end Jason Babin, who made the Pro Bowl last season with the Tennessee Titans, has joined former franchise Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent.

And punter Sav Rocca will reportedly move from the Eagles to the Washington Redkins.

Former AFL player Rocca became the oldest rookie in NFL history when he joined the Eagles in 2007.
