Hazard drops Premier League hint; Roberto Carlos to retire at end of 2012

Hazard drops Premier League hint

Lille highly rated forward Eden Hazard admits that he is likely to move to English Premier League in the summer.

The 21-year-old has a long list of suitors from top European leagues, but the player is not interested in January exit.

“No, it’s impossible,” Hazard told Canal+ regarding rumours he could leave les Dogues this month.

“I still have lots of things to do with Lille, we could win one or two trophies.

“I want to concentrate on my game and enjoy life with my public and my team. I am not leaving.”

However, the player recently revealed he is set to quit the Ligue 1 champions at the end of the season and now reveals that English Premier League is his preferred destination.

“I think I’m heading to England, the style of play suits me.

“It is clear there are a lot of clubs interested in me. Paris? I have already said I would prefer to go abroad. I have over 100 Ligue 1 matches.”

Arsenal and Chelsea are likely to be encouraged with the player’s latest statement, although Inter and Paris Saint-Germain are not yet ready to give up on the Belgian forward.

Roberto Carlos to retire at end of year

Anzhi Makhachkala defender Roberto Carlos has revealed that he plans to retire from football at the end of the year.

The 38-year-old has a contract with Anzhi until June 2013, but he is likely to retire at the end of the calendar year instead.

“My contract with Anzhi finishes in June 2013 but in December I have the chance to stop playing,” Carlos told Marca.

“After that I will continue as an assistant to the president Suleiman Kerimov because with him I have a contract for life. He has asked me to help create a structure for the club for the next 10 years.”

Asked whether he planned to end his playing career in December, Carlos replied: “Yes I am. It is the moment to hang up my boots.

“I have played football for many years and I don’t think my body can stand so much physical work, the travelling, the hotels any more…

“I have been a professional for 17 years, but have been playing for 22. This is my last year.”

The 2002 World Cup winner with Brazil has been considered one of the best left-backs in modern football, and he enjoyed spells at Palmeiras, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Fenerbahce and Corinthians before joining Anzhi.

Carlos started his professional career at Uniao Sao Joao in 1990 and has since scored almost 100 league goals.

The highly rated defender has 125 Brazil caps to his name, and he scored the total of 11 goals for the national team.

Marseille president confirms Lucho set for Porto return

Marseille president Vincent Labrune has moved to confirm reports that Lucho Gonzalez is on the verge of completing a loan move to Porto.

The Portuguese giants are set to stay without Fredy Guarin, who is set to complete a move to Inter and they see Lucho Gonzalez as an obvious replacement.

Marseille president Vicent Labrune confirms that the deal taking Argentine playmaker back to Dragao is close to fruition.

“It is 97% (finished),” Labrune told French television Canal Plus.

The 31-year-old will move to Porto on loan until the end of the season, and the Dragons have an option to make the transfer permanent.

According to L’Equipe, the Argentine will be earning a bit less than €4.5 million that he is currently earning per campaign at Velodrome.

Lucho joined Marseille in an €18 million deal from Porto in the summer of 2009, but never quite managed to realize his potential in France.
