Jordan Henderson and Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle about a new contract, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
Liverpool’s priority this summer has clearly been renewing the contracts of key players. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk have all signed new deals; Mohamed Salah is reportedly one of the names on the list as well, as is Sadio Mane.
The talks with Henderson have been going on for quite a while, but at one point they had reached an impasse, with the captain believed not to have been convinced of his role in the future of the team. However, manager Jurgen Klopp recently expressed confidence that the issue would be ‘sorted’, and it seems he has played a vital role in getting there.
The 31-year-old captain is now set to sign a three-year deal, with an option on a fourth based on appearances. The problems similar to those which eventually led to Georginio Wijnaldum leaving Anfield as a free agent earlier this summer have obviously been solved this time.
