(GSM) – Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson expects Barcelona forward Thierry Henry to shine if and when he joins the Major League Soccer.

The United manager is in the States ahead of his club’s summer tour of the nation and is aware of rumours linking Henry to New York Red Bull.

Ferguson believes the MLS will get a player who is still in good form and not somebody who is at the back end of his career.

“There are big players coming to the U.S. Thierry Henry signed with Red Bull, I believe,” said Ferguson. “What you’re getting with Thierry Henry is a man with experience, and presence; that’s what you’re getting.

“He’s not a deteriorated player by any means. He’s still a very, very competent player.

“Maybe he doesn’t have the blinding pace he had five years ago; (but) he’s still quick, and he’s experienced. I think when players get older, they learn to use speed better, their timing is better.

“He’ll be a success, I have no doubt in my mind about that.”
