Theo Hernandez’s agent, Manuel Garcia Quilon, has confirmed that the defender intends to stay at Milan and renew his contract with the Rossoneri.

Hernandez, who joined Milan from Real Madrid in 2019, has 231 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 31 goals and laying on a further 41 assists.

But the Frenchman has struggled for form under new head coach Paulo Fonseca, despite starting 10 of the 12 matches he has featured in for Milan in Serie A this season.

He has created just 15 chances for his team-mates in the league this term, and was an unused substitute in Milan’s goalless draw with Genoa on Sunday.

Hernandez has, however, accumulated the most attacking sequence involvements (56) of any Milan defender this season.

Hernandez’s contract is not due to expire until 2026, but reports have suggested that his future at the San Siro could be at risk.

However, Quilon, who arrived at Casa Milan for a meeting on Monday, told reporters that Hernandez was keen to agree fresh terms at the club.

“We did not talk about a contract renewal, but about fiscal matters,” said Quilon.

“The intention is very clear, which is for him to remain and sign a new deal. We have said it many times.”

As for the decision to drop Hernandez, which is not the first time that Fonseca has done so this season, Quilon respected the Milan head coach and his decision.

“These are not decisions that are down to the player. He respects his teammates and when one player is on the field, the other inevitably isn’t,” Quilon added.

“It happened with Rafael Leao too. We must respect the decisions of the coach.”
