Hernandez signs five-year deal with United

Manchester United striker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez has signed a five-year deal with the club.

The Mexican moved to Old Trafford in 2010 from Guadalajara and took the Premier League by storm in his maiden season in England, netting 14 times as United marched to a record-breaking 19th title.

Goal.com revealed at the weekend that the 23-year-old was set to sign a new deal, and the club confirmed on Monday that the fan favourite has committed his future to the team.

Hernandez told the club’s official website: “Playing for Manchester United has been a dream come true for me. I never expected my first year to go so well and I’m delighted to commit my future to United.”

“To win a title and appear in a Champions League final was fantastic. I’m looking forward to helping my team-mates as we bid to win more trophies for this great club.”

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson added: “The last player I remember making an impact as big and as quickly as Javier is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he reminds me of Ole a lot.”

“His talent for creating space in the box and his finishing ability mark him out as a natural goalscorer. Off the pitch, he is a pleasure to manage.”

“He works very hard and is a popular member of the squad.”

The striker’s agent, Eduardo Hernandez, revealed earlier this month that his client had reached an agreement over a new contract.

He said at the time: “The initial contract was good for Manchester and for Javier because it enabled them both to see if they could fit together and if he could achieve what was expected of him.”

“Both sides have met their expectations and United were happy to reward Javier after his very good performances last season.”

“I will not talk about numbers, but it is a five-year contract. It is a fixed salary with incentives based on the team’s success in each of the different tournaments.”

“Javier was not badly paid with his initial contract, but it was his first contract and, with respect, not comparable with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Nani.”

“But today I can say that the contract has just been signed and everyone is satisfied.”

The club, however, have not revealed whether or not Hernandez has received such an increase in pay, but have confirmed that he will stay put until the end of the 2015-16 season.
