Manchester United’s Ander Herrera has told Mundo Deportivo that his long-term future is still to be decided.
The midfielder’s contract expires next summer, and he has revealed that there have been talks of a new deal but nothing has been decided yet.
Since the arrival of Nemanja Matić in 2017, the Spaniard has seen his game-time significantly reduced and is therefore not certain he would like to remain at Old Trafford past the expiration date on his current contract.
Herrera has been often linked with a move to Barcelona in the past, but when asked about it, he said that a deal was never close to materializing. He says it may be possible that he was occasionally on their list of “15 alternatives” but he never came close to actually moving to Catalonia.
The occasional Spanish international has made 154 appearances in total and scored 16 goals for Manchester United, but only 31 of those appearances have come in the current campaign – a considerable drop from the 50 he made in 2016/17.
