Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has praised his side’s professionalism following Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Freiburg.
The all-conquering German side, who look set for a UEFA Champions League final showdown with Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund in May, had to fend off a Freiburg team out to secure European football for next season.
Xherdan Shaqiri scored the only goal in the 15th minute, as Bayern collected their 14th-straight victory with Jerome Boateng the only starter remaining from their 4-0 demolition of Barcelona in midweek.
The outgoing coach saw his team set a new record points tally of 85 in the Bundesliga, but was quick to praise the work that his opposite number Christian Streich has done with Freiburg.
The 67-year-old said: “I issued a warning to my team before we played Freiburg. What Streich has achieved with Freiburg is sensational.
“A lot of things have come together over a period of years for them. It was a job that required hard work, but credit to the lads. We were very smart and very professional.”
