Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes was impressed by his team’s display in the 2-1 win over Hannover on Saturday.
Strikes from Toni Kroos and Mario Gomez were enough to keep all three points at the Allianz Arena, but the 66-year-old was quick to put their winning performance into context.
The Bavarians came into the match on the back of a 120-minute DFB-Pokal semi-final against Monchengladbach on Wednesday.
“All credit to my team. It’s not easy to turn in a performance like that just two and a half days after a game like Wednesday’s (DFB-Pokal win),” he said after the match.
“You expect to come under pressure at the end when you’ve played 120 minutes in the cup in midweek.”
Nonetheless, Heynckes was pleased to see Bayern eventually find the inspiration to unlock a stubborn Hannover side, whom he felt showed great resilience.
“I’m very pleased. As we all saw, Hannover aren’t through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League and comfortably in the top third of the table by accident.
“They were well-organised and hard to play football against. But all in all, it’s a deserved win. My team played very clever football for long spells.”
Bayern have now moved within two points of Bundesliga leaders Dortmund, who have a game in hand over their league rivals.
