Bayern Munich have confirmed that Jupp Heynckes will replace Louis van Gaal as coach of the Bavarian giants at the end of the season.

Heynckes is currently in charge of Bayer Leverkusen but has agreed a two-year deal to take over at Bundesliga rivals Bayern. He will replace Van Gaal, who took Bayern to a double of league championship and DFB Cup in 2010 but has struggled to repeat that success this season.Heynckes, 65, has managed Bayern on two previous occasions, first between 1987 and 1991 – winning two league championships – and as caretaker in 2009. “Jupp Heynckes was our first choice,” Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement.”We are very happy that we could reach an agreement on a two-year contract. I’m convinced that we will have a successful relationship with Jupp Heynckes.”Heynckes was full of praise for his future employers and knows expectations will be high when he takes charge at the Allianz Arena. “Apart from the good personal relations I’ve had with the management of Bayern Munich, it has always impressed me how professionally this club is run,” Heynckes said.”I have twice been Bayern coach and always appreciated the working environment.””It’s natural that you have to have success as Bayern coach, I understand that but I see it as a fascinating task to achieve it with the team over the next two seasons.”
