Austria manager Josef Hickersberger is positive about his decision to include the experienced Ivica Vastic for the upcoming European Championships.
In a squad that is filled with relatively young players, Vastic forms an exception with his 38 years. The LASK Linz midfiender has had a rather impressive season, which now earned him a national team invitation.
Vastic has already made 46 appearances for the Austrian team but was left out since a 2-2 draw with Scotland in August 2005.
“He has been an absolute credit to the team” said Hickersberger.
The manager went on to reveal that Vastic’s main role at Euro 2008 will be to cover for Andreas Ivanschitz.
