Franco Vazquez has claimed Gonzalo Higuain is the best striker in the world ahead of Sevilla’s Champions League opener against Juventus on Wednesday.
The Serie A champions smashed their transfer record to lure the Argentina international away from Napoli in the off-season and Sevilla midfielder Vazquez feels the striker is well worth his hefty fee.
“Juventus were right to pay €90m for Higuain. He is the best number nine in the world,” Vazquez told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Maybe there was still something missing for him in Europe and that could be the real reason why he left Napoli for a team that is gunning for the Champions League.
“The same could be said for Juventus. They both need a Champions League crown.
“It might be a bit soon to say Juventus are Champions League favourites, but their transfer activity was certainly done with an eye on the Champions League.
“I can see them as battling it out with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain for a place in the final. They will want to start strong and send out a signal to their rivals.”
