Hitzfeld: Bayern don´t need Dzeko

Ottmar Hitzfeld says signing Edin Dzeko from Manchester City is not a must for Bayern Munich as they already have enough attackers.

Several recent reports suggested the Bundesliga giants were keen to add the former Wolfsburg star to their squad, but Hitzfeld feels they do not need the striker at this point.

“Dzeko? I think Bayern already have enough strikers with the arrival of (Claudio) Pizarro, and with (Nils) Petersen staying put. It’s not necessary to sign another top striker,” Hitzfeld told TZ.

“That is unless the trainer decided to switch to a formation with two forwards. However, Bayern already have Gomez in their current 4-2-3-1 formation, with Pizarro as back-up.

“Another high-profile forward wouldn’t even get to play.”

The Switzerland boss then went on to discuss the potential arrival of Pep Guardiola as Bayern’s new coach in 2013.

“If you can sign him and he’d feel comfortable to train the team in their own language, it would be a good thing,” Hitzfeld said.

Guardiola left Barcelona at the end of last season as he wants to take a one-year sabbatical, but is expected to return to coaching in 2013.
