Guillaume Hoarau has resolved to kick-start his career after signing for Bordeaux on a free following his departure from Dalian Aerbin.
The 29-year-old striker had been with the Chinese club since January 2013, having previously played for Bordeaux’s Ligue 1 rivals Paris Saint-Germain.
And Hoarau, who scored his first Ligue 1 goal for PSG against Bordeaux at the Parc des Princes, stressed his eagerness to get started at his new club.
“I haven’t played for a little while now, but the desire and the passion are still as strong as ever,” he told the club’s official website. “I know I’m going to have to work harder than the other guys.
“But I’m coming here with great determination, and a lot of respect, and I’m ready to hit the ground running.
“I’ve been doing physical preparation work for the past two months, but I haven’t played during that time. That’s why I can’t wait to join up with the squad.
“I’m going to do everything in my power to be ready as soon as possible.”
Hoarau revealed that his time in China had not gone as well as he had hoped, and that he had learned a lesson from the experience.
“It would take all day and half of tomorrow to properly describe what happened in China,” he continued. “It was an adventure, and I’d prefer to just talk about the footballing side of it.
“I’ve learned a lot from the experience, and I think it’s made me stronger. It wasn’t always easy, let’s put it that way.
“But I’m really chomping at the bit to get back on the pitch, I can’t wait to get out there and prove myself.
“Mentally I’m ready, and that’s the most important thing. My legs will catch up.”
Despite a troubled 12 months, Hoarau has not ruled out a recall to the French national team in time for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
He added: “The top priority for me is to score lots of goals for the Girondins, and if the results keep coming then who knows what’s possible in the summer?”
Bordeaux currently sit fourth in the French top flight, 13 points adrift of Hoarau’s former club and Ligue 1 leaders PSG.
