Hodgson eyes January spending

Roy Hodgson is hoping to receive the backing of the club’s board in January as he looks to reinforce the current squad.

The boss is not sure how much money he will have at his disposal in the next transfer window but insists new signings are a must if the Reds are to have a successful season.

“I can only hope we get one or two of the injured players back in certain areas.

“With injuries to Jamie Carragher, Daniel Agger, Jay Spearing and Steven Gerrard we have been hit hard in certain areas.

“I can only hope if there is any possibility of transfers in the January window that will help us and make us a better team, I will be given the opportunity to sign those players.

“My ambition to improve the squad is shared by the owners but we will have to wait and see what possibilities are there, if any, and what they would like to do.”
