Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has lavished praise upon departing coach Jupp Heynckes following the club’s historic 2012/13 campaign.
Borussia Dortmund had beaten Bayern to the two previous Bundesliga titles but Heynckes, who took over in 2011, ended his third spell in charge of the club by claiming an unprecedented treble of league, cup and UEFA Champions League.
He will be replaced by former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola but Hoeness said the veteran’s contribution will be remembered.
“Jupp did a sensational job,” Hoeness told Kicker.
“If I had painted a picture of this club 20 years ago, I’d have painted it exactly how Bayern present themselves today.
“We’re at the top now, the trick will be to stay there.”
Heynckes has been strongly linked with the vacant position of head coach at Real Madrid and is set to make an announcement concerning his future on Tuesday.
