Hojlund, Zaha, Sommer, Colwill & Magure: The Daily Transfer Round Up – Sunday, July 9th

United agree Hojlund’s personal terms

While Manchester United might have secured a crucial Champions League return last season and received plenty of praise, it is no secret that the Premier League giants are desperate to recruit a new striking superstar this summer.

After failing to strike what would have been a blockbuster swoop for England skipper Harry Kane last month, it appears that Erik ten Hag now has a new number-one target at the top of his summer wishlist.

Enjoying what was a breakout campaign with Italian outlet Atalanta last season, Rasmus Hojlund has quickly transformed into one of Europe’s brightest young striking stars.

Notching nine Serie A strikes and with growing comparisons to a certain record-breaking Erling Haaland, the 20-year-old has been vocal about his desire to make a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Although it might have suggested that United will have to pay a fee in the region of £60million to snap up that Danish marksman, Football Transfers are reporting that ten Hag’s side have already agreed personal terms with the six-cap international.

Zaha rejects a bumper Saudi switch

Already welcoming the likes of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Ruben Neves to the Middle East this summer, there is no doubt that Saudi Arabia and their takeover attempts have stolen most of the headlines since the transfer window opened up.

However, while the Saudis might be offering bank-breaking wages to their superstar new recruits, The Guardian are reporting that Wilfried Zaha has passed on the opportunity to join Al-Nassr and what would have been a bank-breaking salary.

Failing to agree a contract extension at Selhurst Park over the past few months and officially leaving Crystal Palace on a free transfer, the Ivory Coast international has plenty of heavyweight interest this summer.

Although the 30-year-old might have reportedly rejected a lucrative Saudi Switch, the likes of Lazio and Fenerbahce have made their intentions clear and are desperate to complete a deal over the next fortnight.

While the Eagles might still fancy their chances of getting their attacking talisman to stay put in south London, The Guardian’s report suggested that it is Lazio who are currently leading the Zaha race.

Sommer set to replace Onana in Milan

With David de Gea officially announcing his departure from Old Trafford after a 12-year stint over the weekend, the Spanish shot-stopper appears to have set off a real goalkeeping merry-go-round this summer.

As Inter Milan’s Andre Onana inches closer towards a move to the red half of Manchester, last season’s Champions League finalists suddenly find themselves on the lookout for a new number-one.

However, while the Italian icons might have been linked with a move for ex-Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, it appears that the Nerazzurri have identified Yann Sommer as their dream Onana replacement this summer.

Sky Sports Germany are reporting that Inter Milan have already reached out to Bayern Munich and opened initial discussions over a move for the Austrian international.

While Bayern might have made it clear that Sommer will not be allowed to leave Munich without their own replacement already lined up, it is expected that a deal can be reached between both clubs.

Brighton not giving up on Colwill chase

Playing a crucial role as England’s U21s were crowned European Champions over the weekend, Levi Colwill finds his stock at a red-hot high and it is no secret that the versatile defender is a starlet in demand this summer.

Enjoying what was a hugely impressive campaign on loan at Brighton last season as they Seagulls clinched a maiden European finish, Roberto De Zerbi’s side are desperate to make Colwill’s move to the south coast a permanent switch.

However, while Sky Sports are reporting that Chelsea have made it clear that their homegrown defender is not for sale this summer and a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for next season, Brighton have not given up on their pursuit just yet.

With Colwill’s current deal at Stamford Bridge set to expire in 2025, the former Premier League champions have already rejected a £30million approach from De Zerbi’s side.

While Chelsea might be keen to tie Colwill down to a new contract, the Seagulls are expected to keep pushing over the next couple of weeks.

Maguire to be stripped of United’s captaincy

While there might be growing speculation surrounding the long-term futures of Jadon Sancho, Scott McTominay and Fred over the past couple of weeks, many around Old Trafford were certain that Harry Maguire would be on the move this summer.

However, while reports might have suggest that the England international is solely focused on fighting for his place under ten Hag, it appears that the former Ajax boss has made it clear that Maguire is no part of his plans for next season.

Likewise, only making eight Premier League starts during the 2022/23 campaign and once again coming under a huge amount of scrutiny, The Sun are reporting that the 30-year-old will be stripped of United’s captain’s armband this summer.

Freefalling down ten Hag’s defensive pecking order since the Dutch tactician arrived at Old Trafford last year, The Sun’s report suggests that Bruno Fernandes is sat in pole position to take over Maguire’s captain’s duties.

With it suggested that Maguire will still be stripped of his skipper responsibilities even if he decides to stay put, it certainly looks like the writing is on the wall for Maguire.
