Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that Stuttgart defender Holger Badstuber is set to join the Serie A side Lazio.
Biancocelesti are in a pursuit of a defender who would come as a replacement for Inter Milan bound Stefan de Vrij. The highly-rated Netherlands international is said to have agreed a five-year deal with the Nerazzurri and is expected to join his new club when his contract with Lazio expires at the end of June.
Lazio wasted no time in finding a proper replacement and are likely to wrap up a deal for the 29-year-old centre-back.
Former Bayern Munich defender is leaving the Bundesliga as a free agent after a season back with his boyhood club.
Turkish sides Fenerbahce and Besiktas are said to have harboured a firm interest in signing his this summer but it is now being reported that Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has already reached an agreement with the German international.
