Former Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier has confessed that he is unlikely to make a return to management following his recent health scare.

The Frenchman, who was forced to step down from his duties as Aston Villa manager in June, two months after being admitted to hospital, has since been dedicating his time towards making a swift recovery.

“I’ve got to admit the fact that, probably, I won’t go back into management,” he told talkSPORT.

“I’m practically 85 percent. I’m still getting there. I need maybe a couple of months.”

“It was the dissection of the descending aorta and it was probably not as urgent but it’s a bad thing.”

“Obviously, the profession that I used to have was not the best to keep in good health because of what I have.”

However, despite ruling out a return to club duty, Houllier hopes to still play a role in football as a television pundit in France.

Houllier’s stint as a manager spanned over 30 years and included successes in France and England, with his most famous achievement coming at Anfield where he led Liverpool to the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup in the 2000-01 season.
