I can’t believe some of the comments that Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has came out with recently.
In his latest he has stated that he needs more players to make Manchester City successful, despite already spending over £200million in his spell at the club.
Manchester City went into today’s game with Arsenal eight points behind rivals Manchester United after the champions defeated QPR 2-0 at Old Trafford earlier in the day.
More
The City boss is starting to sound like Oliver asking if he could have some more please. The Italian boss told Sky Sports: “ We lost Yaya and Kolo Toure for the African Nations Cup, had some injuries and lost Vincent Kompany, Joleon Lescott and Sergio Aguero in the last two games,”
“Maybe next year if we lose two important players, we can have another two good players and we can change. Up to now, we have plugged away at building a strong team, so now I think three or four more players with a strong mentality will be enough to finish it.
“The difference is in 20 players, not the 11, and because they are used to staying on top, they play without problems. We maybe need time – but we have already arrived as one of the best teams in Europe.
Unbelievable
Mancini’s comments are unbelievable. The Italian boss has spent an absolute fortune on players attempting to build a title winning squad. It looks like he has failed, so now he wants to spend more money to bring in yet more players.
Its funny how the likes of David Moyes at Everton and Alan Pardew at Newcastle rarely moan about not having big money to spend, yet they have guided their teams to successful seasons. I think Mancini needs to get real.
Mancini states its the squad that is the difference but when you look at the City squad you think that they should be strong enough to win the Premier League title. They showed their strength earlier in the season by beating most of their opponents with ease.
It’s not the first time that Mancini has moaned about the lack of options available to him. It seems crazy that he even has the gall to moan about lack of players.
Mentality
I don’t think the quality of player available to Mancini is the problem. I think the main problem for City lies in their mentality. I suggested a few months ago that Manchester City wouldn’t be able to handle the pressure of being league leaders.
What I suspected would happen has happened to City. City seem to have collapsed under the pressure of expectations. Whereas arch-rivals Manchester United have won the last eight games on the trot. United have the experience of challenging and winning the Premier League title season in, season out.
City as a team have proved that they are not mentally strong enough to win the Premier League title. Maybe when Mancini talks about three or four new players he means players with the mental strength to get City over the finishing line next season.
Manager
Roberto Mancini has done a decent job at Manchester City, but you have to ask yourself could a different manager have spent the £200million more wisely, or used the available players better than Mancini has?
My answer would have to be yes. A new manager may get the chance to manage City this summer if some media reports are to be believed. Mancini needs to stop moaning about the lack of resources at his club and get on with his job, because it seems his players need his help.
Will Roberto Mancini be in charge of Manchester City next season?
