How long can Everton keep hold of Moyes?

Everton are expected to challenge for European places next season thanks to one man, David Moyes.

Since his arrival at Goodison Park the Scottish boss has transformed the Blues from relegation strugglers to European challengers.

Tight-Budget

The Scot is regarded as one of the best young British bosses and has gained a big reputation for the superb job he has done on Merseyside.

And he has gone about his job without moaning about the lack of funds available to him.

Moyes has had a relatively small budget to build a top ten team and has spent it very shrewdly. He has bought decent players and turned them into top class Premier League performers and is very rarely wrong in the transfer market, he can’t afford to be. He spends every penny of the clubs money like it’s his own.

Relationship

Moyes has created an incredible relationship with his players and fans of the club. He endeared himself to the fans from the moment he called Everton ‘The People’s Club’ in his first press conference as Everton boss. And the motto is now emblazoned on the side of Goodison Park.

Moyes also has a close relationship with Everton chairman Bill Kenwright. The pair has gone through a few ups and downs in Moyes tenure at the club but at the end of the day Kenwright has had faith in the former-Preston boss. When Moyes’ doubters wanted him sacked Kenwright kept faith and has been rewarded with a far more stable club.

Summer

This summer Moyes has managed to sign four players. If reports are believed he has spent less than £2million on two players and signed two players on free transfers. For a team expected to challenge for Europe that’s a ridiculous amount.

Moyes has even stated that the club have no money left to spend on transfers this summer. Unless he can bring somebody in on-loan or secure another player on a free transfer then Everton will start next season with the current squad.

Speculation

Everton’s current squad is very strong when everybody is fit but speculation over some of the Toffee’s best players has grown. Arsenal has been linked with playmaker Mikel Arteta and defender Phil Jagielka.

Midfield ace Steven Pienaar has also been linked with a move away from the club. Talks over a new contract have stalled and he could leave next summer on a free transfer. Moyes will be hoping he signs a new contract in the next few weeks.

The fact that so many other clubs want to sign his players is a testament to Moyes eye for a player. If newspaper reports are to be believed Everton won’t have any players left by the end of the summer. However Moyes seems to gain the loyalty of his players and I can see all Everton’s top players staying.

Ambitious

It must be frustrating for David Moyes watching other teams strengthen while he can only dream of more transfer funds. Moyes has stated in the last few days that he wants to bring silverware back to Merseyside with the Toffee’s.

With the lack of resources and other teams strengthening it will be harder than ever for Everton to win trophies or achieve a top six finish next season. It won’t be impossible as Moyes has built a good team but I bet he wishes he could spend a few extra million this summer.

United

David Moyes has been strongly linked with the Manchester United job when Sir Alex Ferguson retires. He is believed to be high on United’s wish list. He has some of the same traits as his compatriot and Fergie is known to rate Moyes highly. The veteran Scot will no doubt have a big say in his replacement.

Moyes has proved loyal to Everton so far. However how could he resist the lure of winning trophies and silverware at Old Trafford? Nobody would blame him for wanting the top job at United but I have a feeling that he feels he still has unfinished business at Goodison Park.

Whether he is given the resources to finish that job remains to be seen. If he does leave then the Everton fans know that the Scot has taken the club forward and he deserves big success. Hopefully that success will be with Everton, if not I hope he achieves great things at United.

Will David Moyes be the next Manchester United boss?

I don’t believe he would ever consider a move to Liverpool. The Reds are in bigger financial trouble than Everton are!

As a ManU big fan, I would love to see Moyes at United. But A couple of things…..
    1,
I think that the prestegue could bring him to united, but also the funds that would b availiable to him,
    2.
I would actually like to see a manager with some style in charge with manu. Why win when u could win in style…
    3.
Last point . After the conclusion with lescott last season and lescotts attittude and ego, i believe Moyes would have a harder time dealing with the many more ego’s at manu.
It would b interesting to see how Moys would go at manu, but he would not b given the amount of patients, faith and time that he has at everton
