Howard got no United regrets

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard insists he does not regret his decision to quit Manchester United.

The 30-year-old will face his old side at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final today.

He told News of the World: “I signed a new contract at United in 2005 but I understand now that was from a business standpoint.

“They then went out and bought a goalkeeper. I don’t get bitter about such things. Life goes on.

“They’re better off and I’m certainly better off, so it worked out well. Sir Alex has been in the game longer than I’ve been alive so he knew what he was doing.

“I was disappointed at the time but at a club like United you need competition in every position.

“I’ve become a better keeper since I left and learned more about the position. That comes from a run of games when you get the chance to correct mistakes.

“Not many keepers have played since Edwin went there. I could have stayed for 10 years and been a No 2 but my ambitions were to play.

“It’s significant for me facing my old side but I’ve no regrets I left. I spent three years there and now I’ve been three years at Everton and I’m happy to be here. I had to leave to get out and play.”
