Bundesliga strugglers Hamburger SV are considering a move on Belgian defender Daniel Van Buyten, according to Hamburger Abendblatt.
Having narrowly avoided the drop after conceding stunning 75 goals in 34 league fixtures, the Red Shorts are desperate to add some stability to the back line and they seem ready to try and recruit their former player.
Seeing as how Van Buyten’s deal at Alianz Arena has expired, he is available on a free transfer, but the player’s high wage demands could prove to be a problem.
It was from HSV that the Belgian moved to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2006, having made 61 league appearances for the club and scored 7 goals.
The experienced defender went on to spend next eight years in Munich, featuring in 158 Bundesliga matches and scoring 20 goals.
Van Buyten, 36, started all five fixtures for Belgium at the 2014 World Cup as the Red Devils were eliminated in the quarter-finals.
