Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has admitted that he made an attempt to sign Emmanuel Riviere during the summer, according to the Mail Online.
The former Monaco man eventually moved to Newcastle United, who the Potters host this evenig, and Hughes is certain that he will be a hit for the North East club.
The 24 year old France U21 international has played in all five of Newcastle’s league games so far this season without scoring, though he did bag a brace in the 3-2 extra-time victory over Crystal Palace in the Capital One Cup third round last week.
Stoke currently sit in seventeen place in the Premier League, three places and two points above Newcastle, who are yet to register a league win this season.
Riviere, who scored ten goals in thirty Ligue One appearances last season, is priced at 7/1 to open the scoring at the Britannia Stadium..
