Mark Hughes has arrived at Manchester City waiting for Ronaldinho, but it seems that Shinawatra does not want to buy all the players himself and will let the manager do some shopping as well. Hughes wants to make Ghana youngster, Anthony Annan, his first purchase of the summer.
The tough-tackling midfielder has impressed at the African Cup of Nations earlier this year and will now be looking to move from the rather obscure Norwegian league and join a Premier League club. Annan is most probably looking for high wages and he might get his wish given that several clubs are fighting for his signature. According to the Lancashire Evening Post, Everton, Bolton and Middlesbrough, along with Hughes’ Manchester City are chasing the 21 year old midfielder.
Annan would be brought to Manchester to take some of the weight off the ageing shoulders of Dieter Hamann and provide some protection to a City defence which has looked suspect on several occasions in the past season. The papers have not put a price tag on the forehead of the youngster who looks to venture on a path similar to that taken by Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel.
On a less jolly note for the City fans, Everton and Tottenham are reportedly tracking Hughes’ young midfielder Michael Johnson in a bid to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season’s UEFA Cup. The promising 20 year old would command a fee of £8 million according to Manchester Evening News but Hughes will be desperate to keep all of his young stars.
