Hull Chairman gets a little carried away!

Hull City chairman Paul Duffen has every right to be feeling pretty good about life as his club sit third in the Premier League after a truly wonderful start to the season.

Unfortunately, Mr. Duffen has decided to talk about it and I bet manager Phil Brown wishes he hadn’t!

The Chairman told the BBC;

“The good thing is there is nothing about our tactics that can be sussed out. Phil has proved himself to be a tactical magician. He outmanoeuvred Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium and not many have done that. We have had three fantastic away wins so far this season. But after the Newcastle game the reportage was dominated by the mess that Newcastle are in rather than giving us credit for the victory. At Arsenal last week there was some sort of implication that because they had been beaten by Hull that it was humiliation for Arsenal. Similarly, on Sunday, we go and beat Spurs and the news is all about Spurs’ problems. But in some ways we quite like that because as long as we are off the radar we will keep surprising people.”

I’m sure Phil Brown will have mixed feelings about his Chairman describing him as a ‘tactical magician’ and saying that he ‘outmanoeuvred’ Arsene Wenger.

Mr. Duffen continued;

“It’s been a great start to the campaign and we are immensely proud of Phil and the boys. We have got a momentum at the club. We are not going to get ahead of ourselves but we are certainly going to enjoy it while we are up there. We have got a wonderful atmosphere at the club and a great team of people. Everyone is facing in the same direction and I don’t think there is any limit to what we can achieve as long as we can keep that on the go.”

I don’t blame Mr. Duffen for feeling so pleased and so proud, but I think he should take his own advice and make sure he doesn’t get ‘carried away’ with himself. It is a long season.

    Mr Duffen has a right of feeling pretty good, especially after the Arsenal win. How many teams have done that at the Emirates?. If you were tottenham would you celebrate!. I dont think so cause of the obvious reason. Let them enjoy.

    Patrick. Who’s talking bollocks, then? A very defensive approach? Hull City played three strikers at the Emirates. When we equalised we didn’t shut up shop, we continued to attack, won a corner, and got the winner from it. Of course we had a bit of luck with some wayward finishing from Arsenal, but we made our luck. Give a bit of credit where it’s due.

    Outmanoeuvred Arsene Wenger? Bollocks, the Tigers took a very defensive approach and launched a few daring counter-attacks, and got more than lucky with that wonder-strike. As for the other goal, Arsenal needs a new captain and center-back if they are to defend corners. Credit to Hull they have accomplished a great deal, and they beat Spurs which takes away some fo the pain of the Emirates loss. He may be on cloud nine so I guess one verbal slip up is ok. If only Hull could do us all a favor and beat Chelsea, Liverpool, and Man Utd now.

    Erm…

    have you actually seen any of the tigers recent wins?

    i don’t think there is anything in those quotes deserving of your snooty analysis graham.

    To level an accusation of getting carried away is plainly unfair. I’m sure nobody connected with the club is under any illusions that the target for this season is to remain a premier league club. Especially with Duffen’s comment “We are not going to get ahead of ourselves but we are certainly going to enjoy it while we are up there”.

    What’s wrong with that?
