Hull confirm interest in Aboubakar; Jovetic happy at Man City

Hull City A.F.C. manager Steve Bruce has confirmed the club's interest in signing FC Lorient No. 9 Vincent Aboubakar.

Hull City A.F.C. manager Steve Bruce has confirmed the club’s interest in signing FC Lorient No. 9 Vincent Aboubakar.

The Tigers are short of attacking after new arrival Robert Snodgrass’ dislocated his kneecap in the English Premier League opener at QPR last weekend.

Meanwhile, Shane Long, who joined Hull from West Bromwich Albion in a deal worth £6.5 million, was sold to Southampton for a shocking sum of £12 million.

Bruce wants to reinvest some of the incoming funds and is looking at six to eight players, one of whom is Aboubakar.

The Cameroon international, 22, bagged 16 goals in the French Ligue 1 last season; only PSG’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic score more goals in France’s top-flight.

When asked if the club have made an offer for Aboubakar, Bruce said: “We haven’t made an offer, no.

“We’ve had conversations but we’ve had conversations with between six and eight different clubs over six or eight different players. We’re trying to add to the squad as we know we have to.

“We’ve lost two players in the last week, big players in Long in which we’ve gone on record as saying the offer was just too good to turn down.

“But we didn’t envisage losing Snodgrass for six months which is a huge blow to us because he was brought in to give us that little bit of quality which we needed to the midfield area.

“It’s been a huge blow over the weekend but hopefully we’ve got 10 to 11 days to bring in a replacement.

“Two or three offers went out yesterday and we’ll see what materialise but I’m not going to tell you who.”

Aboubakar, who started two games for Cameroon at this summer’s World Cup, has scored one in two league appearances for Lorient this season.

Jovetic happy at Man City

Manchester City F.C. striker Stevan Jovetic has reiterated he is happy at the Etihad Stadium despite reports linking him a move to Italian Serie A champions Juventus.

Following a £22 million move from Fiorentina, the Montenegro international, 24, endured a nightmare debut campaign with City in 2013/14, suffering countless injuries which relegated him to six starts in all competitions.

However, Jovetic is looking forward to a fresh start of sorts in 2014/15, and understandably so. As they say, ‘last year is ancient history.’

“I don’t want to speak about last year, because I have said so many times what happened,” said Jovetic.

“I just want to look to the future.

“I am happy to be here and I know that I am going to be an important player for this club and I am happy to be a part of this team.

“Of course, I am expecting so much from me this season, I expect to score so many goals.

“We have a very good team. There is great competition for places with Edin and Sergio and Alvaro.

“They are all there and we have to do our best and at the end, who is the best in that moment will play.”

Can Jovetic leapfrog Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko in Manuel Pellegrini’s pecking order this season?
