Premier League side Hull City have revealed that they have received a formal transfer bid for defender Sam Ricketts from an unnamed Premier League club.
Tigers manager Phil Brown told BBC Radio Humberside: “We’re assessing it on it merits in a professional manner.
“Sam has another year left on his contract and if the lad wants to stay he has to show it in the opening games of the season.”
“It’s a balancing act and he’s getting on with pre-season in a professional manner,” he added.
While Bolton and Portsmouth are both reported to be interested in signing Ricketts, Brown did not reveal the club who had made the offer.
“We’ve had one firm [offer] and another [club] showing interest,” Brown revealed.
The 27-year-old Welsh defender, who was signed from Swansea City in 2006 for a fee of £300,000, was a regular feature of the Hull side last season, as they successfully fought to survive in the Premier League.
